Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution

Our Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice is broadly based, and advice is given on disputes and potential disputes arising out of corporate and commercial transactions involving banking, finance, and international trade, shareholders and partnership disputes, construction claims, contractual and negligence claims, employment disputes, commercial fraud investigations, insolvency, personal injury and fatal accidents.

The firm's practice is not limited to dispute resolution in Hong Kong. The team's experience and expertise extend to advising on and the co-ordination of multi-jurisdictional litigation to ensure that the conduct of the Hong Kong proceedings will best support and complement the global strategy devised. When necessary, the team works in close co-operation with members of other practice groups within the firm to devise the appropriate strategy.

The firm's policy is to provide a high quality personal service and prompt response to every client in every matter. The firm recognises that cost is a very important consideration and that all forms of dispute resolution can be both expensive and time consuming. Therefore, wherever appropriate, the firm will advise clients on alternative methods of dispute resolution such as mediation or adjudication so that all possible routes to a speedy and cost effective resolution are explored. However, where necessary, the firm will not hesitate to advise clients to take pre-emptive steps to protect and safeguard their commercial interests, or to secure a better advantage from which subsequent negotiations for settlement can be conducted.

The firm adopts a flexible approach to the question of fees in so far as this is permitted by the rules of conduct of the profession. The Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice is always prepared to consider a fixed fee for a particular piece of work and is always willing to provide estimates of future costs.
