MICHAEL DALTON
Michael graduated with an Honour's Degree in Law in Liverpool University in 1955 and was admitted a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1958.
Michael's career in law was partially interrupted by obligatory service in the Royal Air Force between 1958 and 1961, when he served as a Flying Officer and Flight Lieutenant and gained experience in advocacy acting as Defending Officer in Courts Martial.
After his release from the Royal Air Force in 1961, Michael practiced as a solicitor in the UK, focusing largely on advocacy including crime, domestic law and commercial disputes in the County Courts and Magistrates' Courts and commercial litigation in the High Court in London.
In 1981, Michael was admitted solicitor in Hong Kong and joined a newly formed local partnership in Hong Kong as a Consultant, subsequently becoming a Partner. He was initially Head of the Litigation Department but subsequently concentrated on corporate commercial work advising overseas SMEs or subsidiaries in Hong Kong of overseas corporations. He remained with the firm until 2007, when he joined Hampton, Winter & Glynn as a Consultant specialising in corporate and commercial matters, and China related investment and the establishment in China of Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprises and Joint Ventures.
Michael currently acts as non-Executive Director and Advisor to several foreign controlled enterprises having investments in China.
Michael was admitted Notary Public in Hong Kong in 1992.
In the United Kingdom, Michael was a founding member of the Coventry Community Relations Council and was a member of the Law Society's Legal Aid Committees.
Michael has also served on the Board of Directors of the World Law Group, an international association of independent leading commercial law firms worldwide.
Michael has delivered papers on "Doing Business in Greater China" and various aspects of business in the region, in numerous jurisdictions including Japan, California, Mexico, London, and The Netherlands.
