Martin Waldron is a senior litigation specialist who joined Hampton, Winter and Glynn in 1992.  He was the head of the firm’s Litigation Department until 2015.

 

Martin has advised on numerous high profile cases often involving an international element.  He has acted for the beneficiaries in ‘dynastic’ disputes involving rights to inheritance, challenges to the executor’s administration of the estate and management of family company assets.  He acted in one of the first civil cases in Hong Kong to establish a beneficiary’s rights through the use of DNA evidence.  He has advised beneficiaries on claims against Trustees and represented clients in claims against their former professional advisers.

 

Martin started his career with a City law firm in London, specialising in insurance related litigation, with an emphasis on professional indemnity claims against solicitors, accounts, architects, surveyors and stockbrokers.  He moved to Hong Kong in 1981 to work for an international law firm, advising on a variety of corporate and commercial disputes.

 

Martin served for six years as the Law Society’s external examiner for the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws course provided by Hong Kong University and City University of Hong Kong. 

 

For ten years Martin acted as the Panel Convenor and Examiner of the Civil and Criminal Litigation paper for the Overseas Lawyers Qualification Examination.  He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has trained in mediation. 

 

Martin was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1976; in Hong Kong in 1981 and; in Victoria, Australia in 1985.  He has a degree in Chinese from the School of Oriental & African Studies, London.
