With effect from the commencement of the Companies (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 on 28th April 2023, locally incorporated companies may hold a general meeting by using virtual meeting technology; at a physical venue; or both. Virtual meeting technology means technology that allows a person to listen, speak and vote at a meeting without being physically present at the meeting so it will include popular video conferencing software like Zoom or Team. A local company may hold a general meeting by using virtual meeting technology without amending its articles of association unless its articles expressly preclude it or require a general meeting to be held only at a physical venue. Please contact us for further details if you wish to take advantage of the new provisions.
